The School s Grading System - 1479 Words
Since 1983, grades have been steadily rising which might seem like a good improvement, but instead, it has been negatively impacting studentsââ¬â¢ education and the world around them, leaving people to question the schoolââ¬â¢s grading system. According to Vikram Mansharamani and Peter Jacobs, one of the main reasons for grade inflation was that during the Vietnam War, students were given ââ¬Å"higher grades to ensure that students wouldnââ¬â¢t fail out or be draftedâ⬠. Although this may be true, even after the Vietnam War, grades were above average. In the early 2000s, Wellesley College and Princeton both tried to combat the inflation and got two different results. Despite Wellesleyââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"average GPA falling from 3.55 to 2.28, itââ¬â¢s been slowly drifting backâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦One simple error from them and I could be dead or in a coma forever. Or in the instance of a surgeon, if they didnââ¬â¢t put in enough hours in the skill lab, or ve ry minimal, and didnââ¬â¢t even master their techniques, I wouldnââ¬â¢t allow them to perform on me. In this sense, if students graduate without the necessary skills and knowledge that they should have learned, they can ultimately begin to destroy the population. With the inflation of grades, their value drops to the point where some people suggest not even using grades. Mark Oppenheimer suggests in his article, Thereââ¬â¢s nothing wrong with grade inflation, that instead of grades, the professors essentially write feedback and tell the students what they did correctly and what they need to improve on. If we think of grade inflation as currency, we can easily see how it would lose its value. As grades lose their value, professors lose their credibility. They are hired for the sole purpose of educating their students, not to give them good grades. Although passing their students is one of the main goals as an educator, they should ensure that their students are learning the material and not taking the easy route out. Did you know last year Starbucks made 10.7 billion dollars? Who here has ever been to Starbucks? Well I have, they have delightful hot and cold drinks and scrumptious desserts. But did you know Starbucks also owns Teavana. Today Iââ¬â¢m going to talk to you about one of the worldââ¬â¢s most well-known coffee shops in the world; Starbucks. Firstly Iââ¬â¢m going to talk about its history. When first started it was called Pequodââ¬â¢s coffee because Pequod was the name the ownerââ¬â¢s first ship. But they soon settled on Starbucks. Yep you heard me right plain old, bottled water. Every other drink is horrible for your health. But the second healthiest beverage there would be the tazo tea with 0 calories, 0g total fats, 0g total carbohydrates, 0g sugar (I know thatââ¬â¢s a little surprising), and 0g or everything . But is zero of everything good, I donââ¬â¢t think so, because you need those macronutrients to give energy to your body e nergy and youââ¬â¢re supposed to have big quantities of macronutrients. The macronutrients include: carbohydrates sugar/glucoses, and protein. So thatââ¬â¢s why the tazo tea is not the best option because it doesnââ¬â¢t help you. Now for the unhealthy options; letââ¬â¢s take for example the famous vanilla bean Frappuccino with no wiped cream. It has 200 calories, 3.5g of total fat, 39g of total carbohydrates, 36g of sugar, ad 3g of protein. Yet if you want to add sweetened wiped cream that would be another 50 calories, 5g of total fat, 1g of total carbohydrates, 0.3g of protein, and 1g of sugar. Now hereââ¬â¢s a short list of unhealthy drinks at Starbucks: so in third is the tazo green tea Frappuccino blended; itââ¬â¢s so creamy and milky and thatââ¬â¢s a whole 290 calories for a tall. Support activities are such types of activities, which can make the delivery of any other primary activity possible. Usually, support activities are all about different kinds of competitions within one concrete sphere.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Boeing Support Activities specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More There are four major categories of support activities, which, in their turn, are divided into several more specific activities: general administration, technology development, human resource management, and procurement. In order to take leading positions in the desirable spheres, it is necessary to take some of these support activities properly and be aware about the consequences of such use. The Boeing Company is one of the most widely known aerospace companies and, at the same time, the largest manufacturer of numerous military aircrafts. At the beginning of the 1900s, Boeing appeared on the world scene and amazed consumers with its novelty and practicality. To achieve the desirable success, the company never stops to demonstrate its capabilities and provide its consumers with advanced technologies, e-enabling airplanes, military platforms, and other captivating financial solutions for each of its customers. (Boeing) Support activities for the Boeing Company should be analyzed in order to comprehend how this company is able to take the leading position for such a long period of time, and then identify and analyze its strengths and weaknesses. As it was mentioned above, four categories of support activities consist of some sub-activities, which are necessary for the company. Identification of some of them should help us clear up its strengths. Another activity in the sphere of human resource management is invigorative programs in order to motivate all employees of the company. It is underlined that any employee is an important key of the Boeingââ¬â¢s success and growth. The benefits package is another strength of the company, that helps to meet the needs of workforce, provide financial protection of employeesââ¬â¢ families, and promise proper retirement benefits. Technological development is something that supports the whole value chain. However, Boeing is not always able to meet all critical deadlines. This is why such support activity demonstrates one of the slight weaknesses of the company. Sometimes, not all the deadlines can be met because of weather conditions or terroristic attacks. Of course, they are not huge in numbers, but still, such possibility exists and has to be considered. ââ¬Å"Procurement refers to the function of purchasing inputs used in the firmââ¬â¢s values chain, not to inputs themselves.â⬠(Dess et al., 82) One of such activities is purchasing different advertising and media services. Boeing is one of the companies, which pay much attention to new advertising technologies in order to satisfy the vast majority of consumersââ¬â¢ needs. This is why their careful attitude and attention to novelties make this organization more powerful in comparison to other aerospace companies. These and many other support activities prove that the Boeing Company chooses the best ways to achieve the desirable success and be the leader in this sphere. Itââ¬â¢s important to know a thing or two about the audience you are designing your messages for. Who are them? Whatââ¬â¢s the age group that your followers are a part of? Whatââ¬â¢s their social and economic status? Your goals. What is it that you want to achieve? Is it awareness? Or, do you want to drive in more sales? Maybe you want to gain more influence or to expand your audience? Whatever your goals may be, it is important to have them clearly stated before starting to work on your campaigns. In order to get from where you are now to where you want to be, you need to know what or where your destination is. Your visual identity. Stories are a form of ephemeral content which means that you donââ¬â¢t need to spend as much time brainstorming for ideas and designing the best possible slides. This is what the whole idea about this Instagram feature. It allows brands and individuals to be more creative by investing less in designs and more in spontaneity and truthfulness. However, this does not mean that you should neglect your visual identity and not take it into account. If you have such elements and they are popular among your audience or very well known, do not hesitate to include them in your Stories. You may benefit a lot from the awareness that is already there. Apart from the above, you should also consider the type of content you are going to start publishing. At this point, you have several options such as: 1. Product-Based Content Online shops and product manufacturers can leverage Instagram Stories by including some of their offers between their slides. Hereââ¬â¢s an example from ââ¬Å"The North Faceâ⬠of a clever wordplay and a simple yet effective story that encourage their fans to shop for their bags: 2. User-Generated Content Depending on how big is your fan base, you can leverage them to get even more awareness by challenging them to post on your behalf. You can either ask them to send you their pictures out of which you can design the stories or, you can ask them to publish their own stories. Their inputs can include branded hashtags, photos of products, services mentions and so on. The greatest example in this case comes from Red Bull, the true king of todayââ¬â¢s online user generated content. Theyââ¬â¢ve created a whole media company to deal with this kind of content. One of the easiest and yet most effective ways to drive in engagement and to increase your sales or awareness on your brand, is through polls.
